Introduction to Drawing & Seeing with Joe Fama

Beginners: Discover the essential drawing fundamentals needed to capture line and shading (value transitions) to render the impression of representational form. Learn also how to observe these visual phenomenon by learning how to see through direct observation. The goal is to apply these principles in producing a well-developed still life or landscape drawing. We will also learn some fundamentals in constructing the human head by drawing from a plaster cast and understanding the planes that make up the structures of the face and head. Drawing media will be in graphite or charcoal pencils. 

  • Supplies: Strathmore Drawing Pad - Size: 14 x 17; Kneaded Eraser; Genuine Chamois; Pencil Sharpener.
    Pencils (Optional-) Rexel Cumberland, Eagle Turquoise or Schwan Stabilo 2B, 4B, 6B
    Charcoal Pencils (Optional-) Eagle , Generals 2B, 4B, 6B, or Wolff’s Carbon 2B, 4B, 6B

Joseph Fama

Joseph Fama studied at the School of Visual Arts and the Reilly League of Artists. Cesare Borgia was his teacher.  Fama earned a bachelor’s degree from Iona College. He’s a member of the American Artist Professional League, Oil Painters of America and American Impressionist Society, Inc.  His work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and has won numerous awards.

 

Fama has served as an Art Director for several advertising agencies in New York City and worked with clients and copywriters in developing concepts and visual images for ads and T.V. commercials.
