Process Painting: Building an Authentic Body of Work -- with Anna Patalano
Adult Classes | Available
For independent-study painting students, this advanced studio course emphasizes conceptual development, the cultivation of an authentic visual language, and the creation of a cohesive body of work. Through an exploration of contemporary painting practices, students will investigate how ideas, materials, and process intersect to create meaningful and personal imagery. Using concepts drawn from abstract and non-objective painting, students will learn to deconstruct traditional subjects such as the figure, landscape, and still life to develop unique visual statements, while those interested in fully non-objective approaches may explore imagery structured through color, form, space, and composition. Through individual critiques and ongoing dialogue, students will strengthen their artistic voice, move beyond formulaic solutions, and develop exhibition-ready bodies of work characterized by depth, consistency, and conceptual clarity. A wide range of painting materials, mediums, tools, and techniques will be explored. First time students must get instructor approval before registration.
