Through observational drawing and painting students will increase their visual communication skills by transferring their ideas and ways of

seeing into their own 2- dimensional imagery. They will strengthen their spatial awareness, improve memory, concentration, focus and improve their fine motor and math skills. Observing and interpreting what they see helps children become aware of and appreciate shape, patterns, lines, form, outline, structure, shading, color, and of course imagination! In really looking and translating qualities of natural objects, children become more tuned into and connected with the natural world. We will use a variety of materials including; artist's papers, wood, pencils, erasers, vine charcoal sticks and watercolor, acrylic and gouache. Students will also be given their own artist's notebook and pencil to guide them towards sketching and observing things during the week. By the end of the session students will have a small portfolio of personal artwork.
