Highlight your wraps, jackets, scarves and hats for the upcoming seasons with a one-of-a-kind stick pin made of light weight polymers.At the end of this workshop, you will have several ornaments/art pins for yourself, gifts for family and friends. We will start the day with a group discussion on form and function, design concepts and materials to be used. Several demos will highlight the techniques as we move through each stage of the project. We will start with basic veneers, embellish them with various textures, inlays, foils and stamps. The final veneers and endcaps will be cut to shape, pre-finished, while we consider the interior mechanics for the pin. The second day of the workshop will focus on finishing techniques, adding any alternative materials and setting the endcaps. Material Fee: 15.00 paid to the instructor (Foils, beads, pins and endcaps.)


  • Instructor will share- pliers, Cutters, tissue blades, x-acto blades, straight pins, cutting surface, clear shipping tape, limited Prismacolor pencils to share.

    List of tools and materials for students to bring to class Supplies will yield 2-3 stick pins,

    1.   Pasta machine and tools you normally use. (Please contact instructor for use of her machines, don’t go buy one if you don’t have one, I would love to share. 12)

    2.  Wet dry Sandpaper.100, 200, 400 ,600 grit.

    3. Premo or Fimo Clay, - 2 oz. pkgs.  either brand is fine…. Make sure the Fimo is soft!

    2- Black2 oz., 1 one Pearl, 1 Gold, 2 Premo Translucent and 3 other colors you like. (I use Premo).  2- Sculpey 111 White.

    4, Prismacolor-Pantone markers and pencils if you have them. Favorite colors, especially black. I will have some pencils so don’t go and buy them if you don’t have them.

    5 Any canes you would like to use.

    6 Lock-Tite, Cyanoacrylate, (Super Glue) Reg or Gel.  Or your favorite to work with                         7. 7.

    7.Texture plates, Stamps.

    9. V shaped carving tool. (I will have a limited supply to share).

Helen Wyland-Malchow is a retired Fine Arts teacher with over 34 years’ experience in the field. She specialized in Pottery, metalsmithing and Foundations. She was head of the 3-D department for over 15 years.

Twelve years ago, she was searching for unique teapots to share with students and ran across Jeff Devers Wire and Polymer teapot. The rest is history, Helen had a new love.

She uses methods and techniques from her educational background and applies them to her Polymer Jewelry, Vessels, Boxes and Containers. She makes her own molds, plates and ceramic forms to make her visions come to life.

Helen is a Nationally and Internationally awarded Artist; she has published many how to articles for various magazines and continues to teach on the National level.
