Students will create paper or mixed-media collage artworks by cutting and reassembling various colored and textured papers, photos, text, images, and printed ephemera. Collages can be further embellished with paint, markers, crayons, pencils, stamps, thread, fabric, lace, and found objects. Tools and supplies like glue, gel mediums, sealants, tape, brushes, scissors, paper punches, cutters, hobby knives, rulers, and cutting mats will be demonstrated and provided for in-class use. Students may build collages on Bristol or matte board suitable for display, or directly in their own sketchbooks or journals. Teacher will provide an exploration guide suggesting collage prompts, styles, techniques, and media approaches to inspire students’ work in class and beyond. All collage materials and tools will be provided, but students may bring photos, clippings, or other meaningful items to incorporate into their work. No prior collage experience necessary.
