Do not worry-you will not be asked to do math in this class! We will discover signs of the elements of geometry in nature and how they were used in art through the history of different cultures. Students will explore mathematical concepts such as golden ratio, symmetry, patterns, proportion, and fractals by finding them in famous art works of Kandinsky, Pollack, Mondrian, Escher and other artists. We will have fun creating imaginative castles and landscapes; unique patterns; optical illusions and abstract compositions using rulers, triangles, and compasses. Visual geometry develops a deeper understanding of spatial relations, scale, symmetry, and 3D construction.
