Cut up old clothes, wiggle strips onto a special crochet needle, then crochet chain stitches of twine to make glorious textiles. Easier than braiding and faster than hooking, Shirret Crochet costs almost nothing to do. Shirret (rhymes with hurray) brings years of creative pleasure and a good way to recycle fabrics. “Shirret” them into thick, luxurious, small carpets. With two stitches, a special rug hook, twine, and fabric scraps, you can make jewel-like quilt pieces, berets, rugs, cozies, pillows, dog coats, and home decor. Beginner samplers are accomplished in class. Prerequisite: Chain stitch and double crochet stitch fluently. If you haven't crocheted recently and need a warm-up, consider registering for the Painterly Contemporary Crochet class on July 14th.

  • Supplies to bring: Don’t buy new, but from home, bring sewing scrap fabrics of cotton, wool, maybe velvet or silk, and old clothes to cut up, scissors, crochet hooks, twine or weavers warp, paper clips or pins. Instructor lends the special hooks and they are available for purchase. Do not buy fabric or warp/cord/string. There is no materials fee for class members, but if you need cord or a hook they are available to purchase in class or online at www.shirret.com.
