Terrifying Paper Toys: Halloween Workshop
Youth Workshop | Registration opens 8/6/2025 8:00 PM EDT
Students will draw, color, cut, and construct 3-D Halloween-themed paper characters using blank or pre-colored paper toy templates. The teacher will provide markers, colored pencils, crayons, and paint to color and embellish the toys, as well as glue, tape, brushes, bone folders, scissors, hobby knives, rulers, and cutting mats to assemble them. All skill levels are welcome—very simple to more complex templates will be available. The teacher will also provide a list of recommended books and websites with templates and inspirational paper toys for further exploration.

I have been a long-time professor at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, introducing undergraduate and continuing education students to all aspects of toy and game design and marketing in my Toys and Games courses, even teaching three semesters online via Zoom during the pandemic. I started my design career as an independent inventor, collaborating with many toy and game companies in multiple product categories, including novelty books, magic, and gift items. After completing my most recent roles as a corporate marketing creative director and as an award-winning senior art director of K–12 educational programs, I’ve started sharing my knowledge and passions with a wider group of students beyond university. My personal projects include drawing, mixed media collaging, soft toys, and jewelry making.
