Contemporary Painting

Explore contemporary painting through color, brushwork, composition, and creative problem-solving in this all-levels class. Working from personal photos, landscapes, or still life setups, students will develop their own artistic style through guided instruction, practice, and supportive group critiques. Please note: NO class 10/12.

Supplies List: Please start with supplies in your medium that you own: brushes, canvas and/or paper (also for purchase from professor) or magazine papers if you collage. Don’t buy kits of brushes: you’ll only use 6 or 7 by my recommendation. Suggestions will be offered. Basic colors: Hansa or lemon yellow, magenta, ultramarine blue, black, white. Extra can be Pthalo Blue, Pthalo green. Bring a few previous paintings if you'd like to.
Alexa MacCrady
LEXA MCCRADY AXON has taught painting, drawing, and printmaking since 1987 and shown work in NYC, Paris, Tokyo, and London. She holds a MFA from the City University of New York Hunter College. She is a student of Valerie Jaudon, Robert Morris, and art theorist Rosalind Krauss. She received individual artist grants from New England Foundation for the Arts, Connecticut Commission on the Arts, Guild Hall Museum East Hampton NY. Exhibitions include Smith College, Parrish Museum, East Village NY; Biennials of Sao Paolo and Everson Museum. She is Adjunct Faculty at Eastern CT State University in digital art.
