Contemporary Watercolor

Adult | Registration opens 8/5/2026 8:00 PM EDT

Create fresh, expressive watercolor paintings while exploring color, composition, brushwork, and technique. Through demonstrations and guided projects, students will learn watercolor processes from light to dark, experiment with mark-making, and develop observational paintings inspired by landscapes, travel, and everyday moments. Please note: NO class 10/12.

  • Please note: This class is 7 sessions

  • Supplies to bring to first class: brushes, paper, watercolor paint kits you already have, like a kids watercolor set with fluorescent colors from Michaels for fun. Extra, pick up a small Arches Aquarelle 6x10 inch 'Carnet de Voyage' Travel Book. Don't buy sets of brushes: you'll only ever use 6 brushes. Try a Wash Brush, or cheaper substitute with white hairs called a Haki brush, a Rigger, a 6 round, an inexpensive Japanese calligraphy brush. We'll discuss the best ones. Bring a white or clear plate to mix color on: John Pike or other palettes will be discussed.
