In this workshop students will learn several ring forming techniques using PMC. Use of slip syringe will be discussed, and students will learn how to set synthetic stones for firing in PMC. The making of cold-molds will be demonstrated and students will use them in corporation with ring making. Students should be able to complete at least 2 rings. Materials fee of approx. $120.00 is payable at class and includes sufficient PMC-3, supplies and significant handouts to complete class projects. Basic PMC tools, including portable work-surface, are required and will not be provided. A small tool kit may be rented in class for $3.00. Upon sign up, students must give their ring size or a ring size they wish to work with. You may submit 2 sizes.

  • PMC Rings and More- You must bring the following required items to class.
  • The other items will be helpful to you if you have them available:
  • 1. Basic PMC tool kit- required
  • 2. Flat plastic sheet (styrene), or silicone or Teflon sheet for work surface (also available from Rio Grande)- required
  • 3. Textures to press into PMC
  • 4. A small object (of plastic or metal such as a button), with medium depth relief pattern or interesting texture (to make a mold of), from which you will make the top of a ring. It should be no larger than 3/4" square. -required
  • 5. Magnifiers if needed for close-up work
  • 6. Safety glasses and dust mask
  • 7. Portable hairdryer (blow-dryer)
  • All students must have submitted a ring size to me during registration. I will be ordering PMC ring-sizing tools for each student (included in lab fee), in the size specified during registration.

Nancy Karpel holds a BS from Albertus Magnus College, and PMC Guild Teacher's Certification. She has taught jewelry making at schools and art centers throughout her 46 years as a professional jewelry artist. Nancy has been published and her work exhibited extensively. Her work has been featured in several books on the subject of Precious Metal Clay. She sells her work through her New Haven, CT studio, N.
