In this workshop, participants will explore a variety of embroidery stitches suitable for letters and text. We will look at a few artists practicing this craft and draw inspiration from their work. A handful of practice exercises will lead to a finished small scale project which could range from an embellished note card to a mixed media collage. The possibilities to apply stitch to enhance or alter text on paper or cloth are endless. This workshop is suitable and useful for both beginners and experienced stitchers, art educators, artists interested in mixed-media and for those with calligraphy skills adding another element to text. Students are encouraged to scout vintage fabrics and notions to add depth and interest to their projects.
