Explore abstraction with a focus on the Bay Area Figurative movement. This acrylic painting class will introduce the figurative painting methods of artists including Elmer Nelson Bischoff, Richard Diebenkorn, Wayne Thiebaud, and Joan Brown. Each week different subjects are explored including still life, landscape, portraiture, and the figure. Each week students will build upon their interpretations of the movement. Please note: class meets 3/30, 4/6, 4/20, 5/4, 5/11.

  • Materials for the Class:
  • This supply list is just a guideline.
  • - 4 Canvas or canvas panels 16x 20 or larger
  • - 5-10 brushes, various brush sizes.
  • - Acrylic Paints ( Just make sure to have primary colors(red, yellow, blue) +black/white
  • Titanium White 8oz
  • Lamp or Ivory black (8oz tube)
  • Napthol Red or Cadmium Red
  • Cadmium Yellow
  • Yellow Ochre
  • Thalo Blue
  • French (Ultramarine)
  • Permanent Green Light
  • Thalo Green or Viridian
  • Alizarin Crimson
  • Bright Magenta
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Burnt Umber
  • Raw Umber
  • - Plastic Kitchen Gloves( not that necessary with acrylic paint but always good to have on hand.)
  • - Plastic containers (Yogurt containers, plastic Tupperware etc.)
  • -Palette (or disposable palette)
  • - Palette knife for mixing paint
  • - Painting Rags (old cotton t-shirts make great rags)
