You may not realize that the Gelli Plate can be used to create more than just patterned papers and designs. In this workshop we will create painterly mono printed artworks that begin on the Gelli Plate. We will be using full bodied acrylic paints in this class and working on either watercolor or mixed media paper.

  • MATERIALS LIST?A gelli plate any size is fine – I suggest a smaller size like 6”x6” or 5”x7” BUT Any size will do, please use what you have.
  • A piece of see-through plexiglass a little bigger than your plate on all sides. You can get this at any hardware store. They usually have scraps and will cut you a piece. It is very inexpensive.
  • Full Bodied Acrylic Paint is best for the techniques we will be using. This means no high flow, liquid or craft paint for this process. Student grade paint is fine. This is a great way to experiment with color and use up tubes that are almost gone as well.
  • One or two palette knives – no need to go expensive here – use what you have and even inexpensive plastic ones will do.
  • Scrap paper for drawing (copy paper is perfect)
  • Mixed Media Paper bigger on all sides than your Gelli Plate
  • Pencils for drawing or sketching 2B, Or Images to work from the size of your plate if don’t like to draw, and tracing paper.
  • A black Sharpie
  • Paint brushes
  • Plain white paper plates or palette paper
