Forge a historically inspired seax. We will explore the form using original examples as a push off point to create authentic every day use blades. The emphasis of this class will be on the marriage of aesthetics and function to create a tool for hard work that looks beautiful. Students will need safety glasses, leather work gloves, and should wear jeans and non-flammable cotton shirt and boots or leather shoes.

Emiliano specializes primarily in Viking Age and Japanese metalworking. He is fascinated by the work ancient people were able to produce with very little, and endeavor to make work that resonates with that spirit. To that end he makes his own steel and iron and reproduces the metallurgical effects that can be seen in historical artifacts. Most everything he makes is based on study of the archaeological record.
