Storytellers and slam poets around the world use tools like rhythm, rhyme, metaphor and sound to build impressive riffs, communicate emotions, and paint a verbal picture. Students in this workshop will explore forms like spoken word, rap, and the long poem and readings from Kwame Alexander's The Crossover and Ellen Hopkins's Crank to create literary art grounded in the hip hop and oral history traditions.
