Through demonstration and individual instruction, portrait artist Christine Swann, will teach you the concepts and techniques that make a painting a timeless treasure. This course will cover Classical principles of drawing, form, composition, texture and color as well as how to create depth, light, and atmosphere in a painting. Understanding forms and the law of light will be studied. Still Lifes will be set up and attendees have their choice of working in oil, acrylic, or pastel. This class will focus primarily on still lifes, but can consist of a portrait lesson depending on attendees desires. A materials list can be found online at www.SweetwaterArtCenter.org/classes.

  • Titanium White or softer creminin white
  • Cadmium Lemon Yellow
  • Yellow Ochre

  • Brushes - all sizes. Rosemary brushes are preferred in Rounds.
  • Surface- canvas or Richeson masonite hardboards with gesso prepared surfaces.

  • Palette- best is a toned grey palette. A book of throw-away sheets is fine.
