Get creative with ceramics and clay in our fun summer day camp held outdoors in a small & supportive atmosphere! This introductory clay camp is perfect for kids who love working with their hands! Students will have the opportunity to learn the basics of pottery hand building techniques such as pinching, coiling, slab building and sculpting decorations. Some of the artists and artworks that we will discuss may include: Peter Anton, Roberto Lugo, and Beatrice Wood or Historical artists/ceramic works exhibited in Smithsonian, Alfred Ceramic Art Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Our young artists will learn:
Basic pottery hand building techniques such as coils, slabs, score and slip, making shapes with hands
Sculptural techniques (additive, subtractive, relief, sgraffito, water etching)
Print making
Transferring students sketches into tangible works of art
Balancing weight distribution
Simplifying shapes into forms

We will use Air Dry Amaco Clay, Clay modeling tools, and Banding wheels.

     -
Lessons would focus on hand building projects with clay and an electric pottery wheel

     -  Projects vary week to week. No weeks are the same so kids can sign up for multiple weeks without repeating projects!

Roldan, Diana

Diana Roldan is a teachers for young artists' classes and owner or Diana Roldan Ceramics. She was formerly a teacher at the Children's Museum of the Art in New York, and has taught several of our kids workshops. Clay as a medium and the ceramic process has always spoken to her the most. It has allowed her to speak through my hands about what's hard for me to express with words. We are excited to welcome her to The Art Guild!
