Welcome to our Loose/Semi-Abstract Watercolor Class, where the fluidity of watercolors meets the expressive allure of semi-abstraction. In this engaging and liberating class, you'll embark on a creative journey that encourages you to break away from traditional representations and embrace the beauty of ambiguity and suggestion in your artwork. Led by an experienced instructor, this class is designed for artists of all levels. Whether you're a seasoned painter or new to watercolors, you'll discover how to harness the unique qualities of this medium to create expressive and evocative semi-abstract compositions. Experimentation is at the heart of this class. Embrace the spontaneity of watercolors while also learning how to control and guide their flow to achieve the desired effects. From suggested forms to expressive gestures, you'll have the freedom to develop your own style within the semi-abstract genre.Join us for an inspiring and boundary-pushing journey into Semi-Abstract Watercolor Art, where each brushstroke is an opportunity for creative exploration, and every artwork is a reflection of your unique artistic voice.

  • Paints: Winsor & Newton (small size 5 ml is good to start with): French Ultramarine Blue, Windsor Blue, Windsor Yellow, Transparent Orange, Quinacridone Gold, Quinacridone Magenta, Quinacridone Violet, Alizarin Crimson, Payne’s Gray

    Paper 140 lb. Cold Press watercolor paper (Acid Free) choose your size (minimum 10” x 14”). If not purchasing paper by the Block, bring a sturdy board (Masonite or Hardboard flat panel) for taping down the paper

    Pencils: 4H or 5H and kneaded or classic pink eraser and a good pencil sharpener
    Brushes:     Round size 2/0, 6, 10, 14 - Oval size 3/4 inch – Hake size 1 ½ inch (look for natural hair brushes - avoid synthetic brushes) 

    Palette: Any kind to hold your paint (suggested: one or two plastic Flower type and one with a lid that has divided compartments) 
    Masking Tape:     Blue ¾ inch  

    Paper towels
    2 plastic water containers

Originally from New York City, Steven began painting, drawing and creating art at a young age. His art education, though mainly self-taught through life experiences and observation, included attendance at Pratt Institute and the School of Visual Arts. His adult career has lead me through many different creative and business endeavors, while always thinking of returning to my artistic roots.
