The Art Insider’s Guide to NYC and Beyond with Debbie Wells

Workshop | Available

Always with an artful finger on the pulse of the current NYC art scene, Debbie Wells of Artful Buzz gives it all to you with an art insider's perspective! This is the perfect opportunity for artists and art lovers of all levels to get a taste of what is happening in the art galleries and museums of NYC (Chelsea, Madison Ave, 57th Street, Lower East Side, Tribeca, SoHo, Brooklyn, etc) Long Island and the tri-state area. She also takes “side trips” to other artful locales, including throughout the USA, Europe, Asia and across the globe. Wherever she finds great art, you will be right there alongside every artful adventure.

Everyone knows about the permanent collections of the major museums, but there is a lot more around than you probably realize. Bet you never even knew that there are hundreds of art venues with rotating work on view every day. This is your chance to learn about the constantly changing exhibitions at art galleries and museums – large and small.

Let Debbie be your guide as she brings you into the best of the best in the art world by picking five current exhibitions every session. There is even a bonus topic at the end of the session of something artful, yet unexpected, that will spark your interest to keep learning and exploring…

She curates her art itineraries with these goals in mind:

  1. Showing a balanced selection of different art styles from traditional to contemporary art. There is something for everyone. Even if you don’t want to hang the art in your own living room, you will still gain an appreciation of why it is on view at the moment getting reviewed by top art critics.
  2. Learning about the creative process in a variety of mediums, including painting and drawing, to sculpture and ceramics, to photography and printmaking, to fashion and jewelry. As an artist and graphic designer herself, Debbie shares her knowledge on how the art gets produced. If you are an artist, this is a great resource for inspiration.
  3. Seeing the exhibitions in their curated settings, as well as up-close and details for careful observation – sometimes it is a better view than if you were seeing it in person! Debbie also likes to analyze with “compare and contrast” critiques of the art on view to examples from art history for deeper understanding.
  4. Getting to know the artist themselves through artist biographies, artist statements, life stories, individual career paths and their proper place in art history or the present art world.
  5. Truly go behind-the-scenes through original commentary and interviews with art professionals that Debbie knows personally through years of networking: museum curators, art dealers, artists, designers, philanthropists, private art collectors, art gallery owners and directors, art historians, art writers and journalists, and more. This is helpful if you want to immerse yourself in the business of art or just want to understand what this industry is all about.

Debbie’s PowerPoint presentations are always educational and entertaining. She does all the research to create original quality graphics presented with an enthusiastic narrative about her top picks of the week. Interaction is encouraged throughout each session for lively conversation or an official Q & A, so everyone leaves satisfied and eager for a new round of current exhibitions next time.

One of the best parts about this course at The Art Guild is that all you have to do is sit back and enjoy. It’s an itinerary of five stops without any boundaries of geography, weather, air travel to commuting, or even sore feet from walking. Every student has the option of watching a recording if you miss a class, visiting in-person on your own with more confidence than ever once you know what to look for, learning from her hand-outs or being able to delve further on any topic online, or even joining her on an in-person group tour in NYC one day. Through this 3-session program, we will explore any artful destination with a shared thirst for knowledge and passion for art.

Every student will also receive free access to Artful Morning Brew, the official e-newsletter of Artful Buzz. There are already over 2,100 faithful art-loving readers who love waking up to its original articles, art news, artist bios, fun art quizzes and more. Be a part of it!
