If you’ve always wanted to try drawing portraits but don’t know where to start, this class is for you! Designed specifically for *absolute beginners*, this course will guide you step-by-step through the basics of portraiture.No experience? No problem! We’ll start with simple shapes and build up to creating recognizable, expressive faces.

You’ll learn essential skills like understanding proportions, drawing facial features, and capturing expressions in a relaxed and encouraging environment. With clear demonstrations and plenty of hands-on practice, you’ll gain the confidence to create your first portraits. By the end of the course, you’ll have a strong foundation in portraiture as well as drawing essentials and the tools to keep developing your skills.

Shiekman, Kerri
Kerri Shiekman

Kerri Shiekman is a Port Washington resident. She received a B.A. in Studio Art and a Master’s Degree in Art Education from Adelphi University, and has student taught at Weber Middle School in Port Washington. Kerri is an award winning artist and has shown her work across Long Island for nearly 20 years. She predominately works with watercolor but has a strong background in drawing, painting, mixed media, and sculpture. Kerri is looking forward to sharing her love of art with the students at The Art Guild.
