Whiskers, Noses, and Eyes, Oh My!

Workshop | Available

Bring your furry, feathered, or scaly friends to life on canvas! In this immersive two-day workshop, you’ll learn

how to capture the essence, emotion, and personality of animals through oil painting. From soft fur and

twinkling eyes to whiskers and even a bit of drool, you’ll discover techniques to bring your animal portrait to

life with confidence and creativity.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Each day will feature live demos, guided discussions on materials and techniques, and plenty of painting time.

Individual instruction tailored to your skill level ensures you’ll make progress and feel supported throughout

the workshop.

WORKSHOP HIGHLIGHTS:

Dynamic Techniques: Explore painting looser and faster to build confidence and bring energy to your work.

Under-painting: Start with large shapes and simple value to establish a road map for your painting.

Expressions & Emotion: Learn to focus on what matters most, letting go of unnecessary detail.

Reference Mastery: Use photos effectively to create compelling compositions.

Color & Brushwork: Dive into color theory, mixing, and brushwork techniques to add movement and energy to

your paintings.

  • WHAT TO BRING:

Bring reference photos of two animals you’d like to paint—domestic pets, farm animals, woodland creatures,

or even wild animals of your choice! See the following page for complete supply list.

We will conclude each day with a group critique, class review, and a Q&A to ensure all your questions are

answered. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have completed two paintings and gained skills to incorporate

    painting into your daily routine.

Voje, Patty
Patty Voje

Patty Voje is an award-winning artist based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. She has exhibited nationally and is the recipient of numerous accolades. Patty studied Fine Art at the University of Minnesota and at The Atelier of Minneapolis. She is proud to be affiliated with American Women Artists (Signature Member), Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society and Outdoor Painters of Minnesota.

A midwest girl born and raised, Patty grew up on a small hobby farm where she had the good fortune to include pigs, sheep and the occasional chicken as members of the family. Her love of animals still figure prominently in her art.

Patty is a figurative painter with most of her work being “alla prima” – completed in one sitting. This allows her paintings to remain loose and intuitive. Her command of bold color and expressive brushwork mark her work.

Patty travels extensively exhibiting in fine art shows throughout the nation, teaching workshops and participating in plein air events. An infectious teacher, she believes that sharing her process and technique is just as important as sharing her finished work.
