Charcoal workshop with Mr. Manny

In this charcoal workshop, students from beginner to intermediate will explore the fundamentals of charcoal drawing by building upon foundational skills. This will include techniques like value blending, creating texture and exploration of different subject matter, along with reviewing charcoal materials, their uses, benefits and purposes.
Works from artists throughout history will be used as discussion and reference for guided drawing time. Students are welcome to bring their subject matter of choice such as a photo or still life object to be used during the independent drawing time of the workshop.
Class confirmed 1 week prior to start and may be canceled for low enrollment.

Charcoal: vine charcoal and compressed charcoal
White Charcoal
Kneaded eraser
Blending stumps
Fixative
Newsprint paper
Tone paper for charcoal.
If you choose to draw upright with an easel it is recommended to bring your own drawing board, or The Art Guild has boards that you can borrow for the workshop.
Manny Villalobos
Manuel Adolfo Villalobos is a Fine Artist, Musician and Art Educator from New York. He has achieved a bachelors in Art Education from Long Island University Post and is also a co-founding member of the alternative hip-hop group A Side Of Darkness (A.S.O.D), where he goes under the stage name OG Manny G. Through his music and art he expresses socially and politically driven awareness which is showcased in his artwork and rhythmic lyrics.
