This class explores the art of composition through the lens of how photographers see the world, and how those same principles can elevate your drawing and painting. Students will learn to observe their surroundings with intention—focusing on framing, balance, light, and visual storytelling.
Through a series of guided exercises, we will study key compositional techniques such as the rule of thirds, focal points, contrast, and leading lines. Students will practice translating what they see into strong, dynamic drawings, learning how to simplify complex scenes and create impactful images.
Working from photographs and student can bring some of their own photos to work on, this class encourages students to think like both an artist and a photographer, capturing not just what is seen, but how it is experienced. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper understanding of composition and the confidence to apply these principles to both drawing and painting.
