Explore the art of portrait painting in watercolor through direct
observation of a live model. This immersive workshop is designed for
artists of all experience levels who want to strengthen their
understanding of facial structure, skin tones, light, and expression
while working in the fluid and expressive medium of watercolor.
Students will learn techniques for developing accurate proportions,
creating luminous washes, layering color, and capturing personality and
mood. Instruction includes demonstrations, individualized guidance, and
discussions on composition, brushwork, and color mixing specific to
portraiture.
Whether you are new to watercolor or looking to refine your portrait skills, this workshop offers a supportive studio environment focused on observation, technique, and creative expression.

- A View Catcher or equivalent is recommended.
- Pencils: #2 or HB graphite pencils
BRUSHES: Round Sable or equivalent synthetic: #12, 8, 4 and 2; Flat,
- soft synthetic: #12 and 8. Bristle flats: #6, 4 and 2
Paper: 100% Cotton Cold Press 9x12 or 11x14, Tape sheet to a board or
- use block. Arches Aquarelle or Fabriano Artistico are good options.
- OTHER: kneaded eraser; paper towels or rags; small sheets of paper for
- scratch.

Rob Silverman
Rob Silverman’s innovative techniques have been featured in American Artist Workshop Magazine and The Art of the Portrait, the official publication of the Portrait Society of America. His work has appeared at Crosby Street Gallery and Spring Studio Gallery in Soho, the Art League of Long Island, Edward Hopper House, The Art Guild of Port Washington, The National Art League, the Lockwood-Mathews Museum, as well as the National Arts Club and Salmagundi Club.
