Debra Fink
I am a native New Yorker —self-described “Brooklyn broad” who in 1996 moved to rural Ohio,
too starry-eyed to not realize I’d end up in a never ending episode of “Green Acres;” bored out
of my mind, homesick, and lonely. I soon discovered that $150 / hour for professional
counseling could best be put to use in art supplies.
It began with a book arts workshop in Cleveland followed by attending summer Paper Book
Intensives taught by Hedi Kyle, Jim Croft, Pam Spitzmueller, Bonnie Stalecher and others.
I began teaching workshops at local museums and schools including the Ohio Craft Museum
and the Columbus College of Art and Design. One of the participants invited me to work with her
children’s bereavement program at a regional cancer hospital. I quickly built a reputation for
working with support groups and began a career in arts in healthcare.
