The Art of Line – From Contour to Form with Kevin Yen

Adult Classes | Available

Discover the expressive power of line and learn how to transform simple contours into drawings filled with depth, dimension, and character.

In this three-day mini session, students will explore the art of contour drawing, learning to observe their subjects carefully and capture shapes, proportions, and gestures through confident, flowing lines.

Through continuous-line drawing exercises, students will be encouraged to let go of perfection and embrace the freedom of drawing without hesitation. The goal is not to create a perfect or polished drawing, but to experience the natural movement and rhythm of the line. With one continuous stroke, from beginning to end, students will learn to trust their eyes, follow their instincts, and allow the line to flow freely without stopping or worrying about mistakes. It's about enjoying the process, building confidence, and discovering the expressive possibilities of a single line.

Students will experiment with a variety of drawing tools, including brush pens, ink pens, graphite pencils, and charcoal, to explore different line qualities and artistic expressions. They will also learn how to incorporate selective shading to create volume, emphasize light and shadow, and bring their drawings to life while preserving the simplicity and beauty of the original contour lines.

Working from a variety of subjects, including everyday objects, animals, and the human figure, students will strengthen their observational skills, improve hand-eye coordination, and develop their own unique artistic expression.

Open to all skill levels. No previous drawing experience is necessary.
