If you are among the many people who studied some French in high school, college, or even beyond but still get stuck when it comes to actually speaking the language, this course is for you. Practical tips for how to relearn French. Learn French by making mistakes. Learn to avoid French mistakes English speakers often make. Practice grammar and vocabulary. Discover your inner French for any situation and up your French game. Gain essential insights on eating and drinking, shopping, manners, travel, and humor. You should also expect a stereotype-busting introduction to history (colonization and decolonization), culture, cultural history, and literature, via sauces and cheese.

Oct. 2 Session 1: Pronounce the French Way: French takes more energy than pronouncing English. Learn the essentials of French pronunciation and intonation. Topics: Liaisons; Enchainment; Statements Become Questions Through Change of Intonation; Using Your Nose as Well as Your Mouth; Nonverbal Cues; Sound Effects and Interjections.

Oct. 9 Session 2: If the French think you’re rude and you think they're rude, be polite the French way. Topics: Formulas of Politeness, Good Wishes, Ways to Sign Off from a Short Conversation, Polite Responses to Invitations and Social Gestures.

Oct. 16 Session 3: Practical French: Practice using short expressions that add flair and confidence to make you sound more like a native. Instruction about what the French say in a given situation, like in a store and at a train stations. Learn idioms and their variations in a given situation.

Oct. 23 Session 4: Table Talk: Learn about le repas the French way. Learn how to invite someone in French. Learn conversation starters surrounding the table. Ask the questions that will make the French want to talk to you.

  • TRANSFER AND CANCELLATION POLICY:
  • A full refund will be issued if the cancellation is received at least 7 days prior to the class date. If cancellations are made less than 7 days from the class date, a refund will only be issued if the class spot can be sold.
  • In the chance that UA-PTC must cancel a class, registrants will have the choice of receiving a full class refund or transferring to another Community Education class.
