Beyond Stab Bindings: Exploring Japanese Book Forms

Adult Intensive | Available

In this class, you'll explore a variety of Japanese bookmaking techniques. We’ll start with a simple traditional stab binding, building on our new skills to make different books with thread and paper. Students will go home with a small library of books and the skills to make more. All levels welcome, though some prior bookmaking experience can be helpful. All materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your favorite cutting mat, paper knife, or decorative paper to personalize your book.

  • All materials including paper & bookmaking tools are provided by instructor with costs covered by materials fee. Please bring reading glasses if you use them.
Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. VisArts values making classes accessible to everyone, and is always happy to work with students to make accommodations when possible. Please reach out to info@visarts.org with specific questions related to accessibility or accommodations.
Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

This studio is not wheel chair accessible due to a set of stairs.
