Creative Nonfiction: Writing About Childhood (This class is only offered once a year!)

Are you looking for a creative way to process your childhood or recount memories? Look no further! This 4-week class will dive into childhood and early adulthood in the form of creative essays or short stories. We will include workshop time so students can receive feedback on their work as well as writing exercises to get creative juices flowing.

  • Bring a notebook and pen.
    Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. VisArts values making classes accessible to everyone, and is always happy to work with students to make accommodations when possible.     Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

Catherine Carson

Catherine Carson has been an avid writer and reader all her life. She graduated from James Madison University with a B.A. in English and a concentration in creative writing, specifically poetry. She is the poet behind the collection, The Land of Opposite Attractions, published in 2022. Currently, Catherine is about to start her MFA journey and is working on a second poetry collection, Loveland, as well as a multi-genre short story collection.
