Drop into Practice: Spinning Fiber on the Drop Spindle
Adult Multi-Week | Available
Hand-spinning is an ancient and nearly universal fiber craft transcending cultural roles that range from the personal to the ceremonial. In this class, we will familiarize ourselves with the drop spindle as an effective tool, and explore a range of fibers and techniques for creating thread, cordage, and yarn. Spinning is a craft to hone our capacity for touch, stillness, commitment, and trust. This class will emphasize staying, or spinning, with the trouble, and guide students to form and foster their own personal rituals for restorative practice. While we spin together, we will learn from stories of craft-based mythos, collective labor, and material animism to guide and contextualize our own ways of navigating chaos, tension, continuity, and the spiral.
