Expressive Journeys: Painting the Subconscious + Movement Meditation

Adult Multi-Week | Available

Explore the depths of your creativity by blending mindfulness, meditation, and playful expression. Through a series of guided exercises, you'll tap into your subconscious to create your own large, vibrant, and expressive painting. Each class will begin with a playful movement segment, and a brief meditation to center your mind and connect with your inner creativity. You'll then be guided through the steps of the painting layers to help you access your subconscious and express it through art. Expect a supportive and non-judgmental environment where experimentation and play are encouraged.

  • Perhaps some painting knowledge is helpful, but not very necessary. This class is for people who are ready to explore. Students bring painting rags, water wash cups and mixing pallets (recycled materials).
Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. In this class there is a lot of physical movement for the dance portion. All can be altered according to students' abilities, but just know that we will be moving! VisArts values making classes accessible to everyone, and is always happy to work with students to make accommodations when possible. Please reach out to info@visarts.org with specific questions related to accessibility or accommodations.
Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

Skrimpz, Sam
Sam Skrimpz

I am a trans non-binary muralist and arts educator. I love working with community to make big art together, and especially with queer youth. The art I make in my practice is playful and mystical, and largely inspired by my upbringing in the gulf south, but is now shifting with my trans identity. I work mostly in acrylic paints, and recently collage and gouache, and am looking forward to exploring more mediums.
