Hand-Built Ceramics

Work on functional or sculptural forms using slabs and hand-bulding techniques with guidance and demonstrations from the instructor. Demonstrations could include: making textural tools to personalize work, how to use the spray booth and how to use the sand blaster. Students will have ample time to practice their craft with the benefit of having a professional ceramicist in studio to answer questions and offer demonstrations. Raku firings will be included in this class.

Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
Please bring a towel and a set of basic clay tools if you have them.
You will receive 25 pounds of clay; additional clay is available for purchase.
Paul Klassett
Paul has a BFA in photography from the Corcoran School of Art in Washington D.C. He began doing pottery in 2000 and has been teaching ceramics at the Visual Art Center since 2012. Currently he shows at Shockoe Bottom Clay gallery in Richmond, Va. He also exhibits at various art festivals through out the central east coast.
