Introduction to Letterpress: Stationery Workshop

Plan and print your own stationery project! Through invitations, business cards, greeting cards, and letterheads, students will explore the medium of letterpress and its historical and contemporary uses, through the lens of stationery and graphic design. We will cover the basics of safe typesetting, composing a piece, proofing, letterpress printing, using the flat-bed and proofing presses, as well as learning many inking techniques such as split-fountain color.
- You will need to provide any specialty paper for individual projects; basic paper and other materials and equipment are provided. This class uses a historic printing press which requires the ability to stand and use your legs and arms simultaneously to operate. Please feel free to bring a short phrase or information you would like to print.
Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
This studio is not wheel chair accessible from the interior due to two steps, but is accessible through an exterior door.
