Wearable Metal Jewelry for Beginners

This course is for beginners who are eager and interested to explore the basics of jewelry-making. You'll learn sawing, drilling, soldering, sanding, polishing, texture making, and surface treatment. This course lays the foundation for the use of metals such as copper, brass, and silver. You'll even create one finished small piece of jewelry to take home!
Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. Metal and jewelry classes may produce loud noises. Students who are sensitive to noises may want to wear ear protection. VisArts values making classes accessible to everyone, and is always happy to work with students to make accommodations when possible. Yifei Kong
Yifei Kong is a jeweler, metalsmith, and enamelist based in Richmond, Virginia. She was born on October 26th, 1995, in Beijing, China. She received her BFA in Metal from the State University of New York at New Paltz, NY, in 2022 and her MFA in Craft and Material Studies from VCU, in 2024.
