Introduction to Woodworking: Create a Picture Frame

Get introduced to the basics of woodworking as it pertains to picture framing. You'll learn woodworking techniques like measuring and calculating dimensions, cutting and joining molding, reinforcing a miter joint with splines, and basic woodshop safety. W


  • Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. VisArts values making classes accessible to everyone, and is always happy to work with students to make accommodations when possible.     Use of power tools requiring hand and shoulder movement. Students stand for up to two hours.
    Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

Mark Peyton

Mark holds a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Photography and Film. As an undergraduate, he was awarded a Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship for a 4x5 large-format film photography series called "Cloth Caves." A jack of all trades with an interdisciplinary approach to the creative process, he has experience in painting, drawing, photography, woodworking, and digital arts.
