Blacksmithing: Bottle Openers

Explore basic blacksmithing techniques to create useful tools to keep cool in the late summer heat. You'll not only make a bottle opener, but the tools you'll need to make it.
- Students should wear natural fiber clothing they don't mind getting dirty, long pants, and work boots or work shoes Students should bring eye protection. Instructor will bring disposable hearing protection, but if you have your own, you're encouraged to bring it. This class will be held outside in our courtyard.
Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. Ability to stand for sustained periods of time. Hammering and tong manipulation requires hand and arm strength, and repetitive motions, and small concussive shocks to the arm/wrist/elbow/shoulder.
Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

Jerry Veneziano
Jerry Veneziano has been a blacksmith for most of his adult life. He began his career doing historic reproductions as one of the smiths at Jamestown Settlement in Williamsburg, VA. Today, he produces contemporary and sculptural ironwork that has been featured in galleries and museums along the East Coast.
