Intermediate Black + White Darkroom Photography

Adult Multi-Week | Available

For students with previous experience in the darkroom, this is an opportunity to explore more in-depth darkroom printing processes and gain new tools for experimentations and creativity. Students will cover a variety of skills, from how to fine-tune contrast in printing, mastering multiple exposure techniques, solarization, and more. Option to learn print toning, spotting, and more finishing techniques based on student interest.

  • Students will have to supply their own 35 mm camera. This is primarily a darkroom printing class. Any film that students print from will need to be shot outside of class. Feel free to bring in old film to work with or to process new rolls. Students supply their own film, camera and paper.

Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. VisArts values making classes accessible to everyone, and is always happy to work with students to make accommodations when possible. Please reach out to info@visarts.org with specific questions related to accessibility or accommodations.
We stand for long periods, almost all class, when printing in the darkroom. We take short walk thru the fans sometimes. The condition in the darkroom are very low light, which may impact visibility.
Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.

This instructor speaks Spanish, but the class is held in English.
