Thrifty Sewing – New!
Adult Intensive | FULL
Go to Fantastic Thrift and The Clothes Rack for a thrifting experience where you'll learn how to find items to thrift and upcycle into a garment. The first day will go over thrifting in person and end with a plan for a project to upcycle and repurpose based on the thrift store purchases on the second day.
- Students are welcome to bring their own sewing machines to class. Please be sure to purchase all supply list items before classes begin.
Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. VisArts values making classes accessible to everyone, and is always happy to work with students to make accommodations when possible. Please reach out to info@visarts.org with specific questions related to accessibility or accommodations.
Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.
On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.
Amanda Campbell
Amanda Campbell’s passion for sewing and fashion design started when her grandmother taught her at a young age. She quickly fell in love and graduated with a B.F.A. in fashion design and a minor in media studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015. She had her clothing brand, ABLE By Amanda Campbell, for 7 years, selling collections of women’s ready-to-wear and evening looks and creating custom designs for clients. Following that, Campbell was the lead designer at Sassy Jones for 4 years, heading the creation of the brand's clothing and accessories lines.
She now runs her own freelance fashion design and brand consulting business, Amanda Campbell Couture & Consulting, where she uses her 14-plus years of industry experience to help designers and companies across the country launch and grow their brands.
She has been teaching at VisArts since 2021 and is eager to share her experience and knowledge of sewing and design with others.Website: https://www.amandacfashion.com/
