Break the rules of traditional printmaking in this hands-on experimental letterpress class. Explore unconventional materials—like leaves, flowers, fabric, string, and clay—alongside classic wood and metal type. You’ll learn advanced typesetting, proofing, inking techniques (including split-fountain color), and how to transform textures, shapes, and typography into one-of-a-kind posters, prints, and cards.
- You will need to provide any specialty paper for individual projects; basic paper and other materials and equipment are provided.
This studio is not wheel chair accessible from the interior due to two steps, but is accessible through an exterior door.
Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. This class uses a historic printing press which requires the ability to stand and use your legs and arms simultaneously to operate. You may need to stand for long periods of time, or occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
