Procreate for Beginners – New!

Discover the basics of digital illustration using Procreate, the powerful drawing and painting app for the iPad. In this class, you’ll learn how to navigate the interface, use essential tools and brushes, work with layers, and practice through a series of short projects designed to build your confidence. We’ll explore tips for drawing, coloring, shading, and exporting your artwork so you can continue creating digital projects beyond class. No prior digital art experience required.
- Students are welcome to bring their own iPad to use during class, but iPads will also be provided if needed. Be sure to have Procreate installed and updated. Feel free to bring reference materials, unleash your creativity, ask questions, and experiment with styles.
Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. Dashiell Kirk
Dashiell Kirk is a illustrator based in Richmond. His work ranges from Comics and graphic novels to playing card games and posters. He teaches cartooning, comic book illustration, and ink drawing at the Visual Arts Center, and has a BFA in Communication Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University.
