Wheel-Thrown Mug Sets (Limited Offering) – New!
Adult Multi-Week | Registration opens 11/5/2025 9:00 AM EST
Learn how to design and throw matching sets of mugs! We'll cover techniques specific to mug making, including throwing sets, trimming, making and attaching handles, surface design, and glazing. We'll discuss mug aesthetics and functionality.
You will receive 25 pounds of clay; additional clay is available for purchase.
Please bring a towel and clay tools.

Wheel-throwing requires some hand, arm and back strength, and the ability to lift 25lbs of clay. VisArts has standing wheels and wheelchair accessible wheels available - please let us know in advance if you need one of these options so we can make sure your studio is equipped.

Karen Hull
Karen Hull is a Richmond ceramic artist who teaches both wheel throwing and hand building clay classes at Visual Arts Center. Karen holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and an MA from Montclair State University. Her interest in drawing and painting is reflected in the surface treatment of her functional ceramic pieces. Karen especially loves creating mugs and bowls. Her work is shown at Shockoe Bottom Clay on East Main Street in Richmond, VA.
