Woodworking for the Absolute Beginner
Adult Multi-Week | FULL
This class is the perfect introduction to woodworking concepts and tools. We'll explore basic, core concepts of carpentry will be discussed, and you will get to choose a simple design of your own to build. We will also explore and gain inspiration from woodworking as art by viewing and discussing the presence of visual art in carpentry. In this class, you'll learn safety and handling procedures, how to read plans and patterns, and how to use finishing products. You will also develop fundamental knowledge of woodworking tools such as several types of drills, saws, and other hand-tools such as planes, chisels, and hammers. Throughout the class, you'll work towards completing a final project.

Mauricio Vargas
Mauricio is an interdisciplinary artist based out of Richmond, Virginia. His work spans a variety of topics, from public art and media theory, to ancestral knowledge and climate justice. Often in dialogue with his Colombian-American heritage, the outcome is a practice that dances between fact and fiction through text, artifacts, and community engagement.
