Contemporary Abstract Art
Class | Available (Membership Required)
Classes will continue to focus on innovative approaches to making contemporary art. The Winter session, “Steal Like An Artist” is based on the creative ideas of author Austin Kleon providing students with opportunities to view abstraction in new ways.
Assignments will explore such themes as authenticity, experimentation, imperfection, constraints, inspiration, imitation, iteration and more.
Students will continue to be introduced to the work of noted contemporary artists and art movements. Weekly assignments will integrate the use of wet and dry media, pen and ink products, painting and collage, and natural and found objects. Students will learn about how to resolve artistic dilemmas by disturbing, interrupting, camouflaging, cropping, embellishing, cutting-up and reassembling work that goes AWOL.
- This class is built upon previous collage classes taught by the instructor which included painting papers, mark making, resists, printmaking etc. This class is for intermediate and advanced students who have taken previous classes with the instructor or by special permission from the instructor.
- Material lists will be sent out in advance of upcoming classes.
