Fundamentals of Composition

A class for artists with experience in drawing focused on overall subject matter selection and
composition. The class helps artists transcend their work from drawing pictures to creating art
by understanding and employing the elements of storytelling and composition. Topics include
selecting subject matter, determining the use of shapes and their relationships, perspectives
and depth of field, textures and materials, lighting, contrast and color.

Nicholas Casciano
Nick is a lifelong Connecticut artist practicing in all types of media with a focus on graphite
drawing. As part of Nick’s career at Aetna Retirement Services he founded and managed a
state-of-the-art Multimedia Center creating a variety of works from illustrations to 3d
animations and videos. Now retired, Nick is an active member of the West Hartford Art League.
