Painting Water, Clouds, and skies in Pastel
Class | Available
This 5 week class will focus on capturing Light and atmosphere in the landscape.
1. Pastels:
be sure to have relevant colors in your palette. Neutral grays and neutralized colors will be important for distance in sky and water scenes. Price shop with Dick Blick, Jerry's, Dakota Pastels, Amazon
If you do not have a good selection of neutrals then I suggest one of the following: Mount vision stormy grey set or Rembrant half stick grey https://www.dickblick.com/items/rembrandt-soft-pastel-set-grey-tones-set-of-10-half-sticks/
2. Bring light colored sanded paper (white or beige ) so it can be underpainted. Paper should be cut between approx 9x12 up to 16x20
I recommend UART any grade or Lux archival for its ability to handle an alcohol underpainting.
3. If your paper is not mounted to a board then bring a backing board larger than your paper to support your paper.
4.Artist's tape white or black only. No blue tape
5. Please bring a sketchbook and drawing utensils*. This is important!
6. Photo references of sky, water clouds land: whether working from a tablet or printed reference, please have the photo available in grey scale and color. NO COPYRIGHTED IMAGES OR CALENDAR IMAGES.
7. isopropyl alcohol ** and a container to pour it into(I use a glass mustard jar w a lid)
8. Brushes - for underpainting, synthetic brushes, no natural bristle (flats in 1/2”, 3/4”, 1”sizes
recommended)
9. glassine to protect your painting when completed
