Intro to Oil Painting

Camp Week 3 | Registration opens 2/13/2026 10:00 AM EST

This class is for students interested in painting who would like to explore the medium of oil paint. Students will learn the basics of how to start a painting, color mixing, and application techniques working from images by well-known artists. Each student will complete one 16 x 20 canvas. 

  • Please note: Oil paint stains clothes. Students should wear old clothes or bring an old shirt or smock to wear while painting. 

    Oil paint, canvas and painting medium is included in tuition. 


    Bio:     Roxanne Stachelek has a BFA in Painting from the University of Miami. Prior to being the Executive Director at the West Hartford Art League, she worked as an Art Director at the Hartford Courant and Disney Publications, and taught art at Renbrook Summer Camp.   • Students need to purchase a set of inexpensive paintbrushes for oil painting to bring to the first class. Approximately $10 -$15. Brush sets for beginners can be found at Jerrys Artarama of West Hartford or at Dick Blick in Plainville.  Optional but suggested is a tub of "The Masters" brush cleaner studio cake to clean brushes. Approximately $8.
