Watercolor Intermediate Level

Class | Registration opens 2/20/2026 10:00 AM EST

This class is for students who have previously taken several classes in watercolor painting, and have a sound understanding of watercolor brush techniques and the use of color.

Required: For the first class bring two paintings completed recently. Group critique sessions will be held at various times for the purpose of reviewing painting principals such as harmony, variety, tone or value, color choice and composition.

Class assignments will focus on landscapes, water scenes and flowers. More fluid application of paint will be encouraged through demonstration and practice assignments including some YouTube homework assignments with the goal of greater freedom in the application of paint through experimentation.

    • IMPORTANT NOTE: It is expected that students at this level will have the time to complete assignments at home.

There are two buildings at 37 Buena Vista Rd. The Clubhouse is the white building at the upper parking level.
You can sign up for a free 10% off card for non-sale items at Jerry’s Artarama in West Hartford. Lukas brand paints are available behind the counter.
It is suggested that when you purchase any items, you keep a copy of your receipt to make exchanges easier if needed.

    • Your painting supplies should include professional level tube watercolors (preferably Lukas, Daniel Smith and Holbein), 100% rag paper, 140lb. cold pressed, 9x12” or larger encouraged (Arches or Fabriano Artistico recommended), masking fluid such as Pebeo drawing gum, white designer gouache or Dr. Martins bleed proof white, a fine spray bottle and a large-sized covered palette. Essential for wet into wet application of paint is a corrugated plastic board available at a hardware store or from the instructor. Brushes and additional color suggestions will be discussed in the first class.
