During this workshop, we will spend our time learning the vintage craft of macramé knotting. Each student will leave with your own handmade, decorative macramé wall hanging. No experience necessary!

This workshop will provide a variety of medium size sticks chosen specifically for their uniqueness, which will be collected directly from the CT shore and Cape Cod (or feel free to bring your own). The rope we will use is 100% raw cotton, and you will be able to choose between natural white or another color. Kira will provide you with the basic square knot, get you started, and give guidance and assistance throughout on pattern ideas and knotting help. You can also expect great conversation and light refreshments during our four hours together!

Macramé is meditative, fun, and creative, and you will leave with the inspiration and ability to make organic and beautiful art pieces for any home!

  • Please bring $20 to the workshop to cover material cost

Local New Englander, Kira Philips, spent time working with and learning techniques from macramé guru, Emily Katz four years ago in Copenhagen, Denmark, and has since shown works at Open Studio Hartford, sold pieces in local retail shops, and been commissioned. Kira draws inspiration from the nautical ocean and natural forests, and personally gravitates towards a more minimalistic, geometric style of macramé.
