Watercolor may be used in very traditional ways, but may also be used to create semirepresentational, contemporary or abstract work. This workshop will focus on ways to usewatercolor with various tools, materials and media in ways you may not have experienced.

  • Please bring about 6 tubes of watercolor paint - primary or lemon yellow, yellow ochre, magenta or red, ultramarine blue, cyan or manganese blue hue, burnt sienna, neutral tint or Payne’s grey. For a wide variety of colors Amazon has a set of watercolors by Royal Langnicle for under $15. 1 tube of watercolor gouache in white. A pad of 18x24 140lb. paper, Canson XL or Vision watercolor or mixed media paper. One flat 1 inch brush and a #8 or 10 round watercolor brush or # 8 quill brush by Princeton. Elmer’s glue or gel medium, a sharpie pen, vine charcoal, white gift wrap tissue paper and a small metal palette knife..diamond shape preferred. A paint palette if you have one, but for beginners palettes will be available for workshop use.

A teacher at the West Hartford Art League for more than three decades artist Carol Ganick teaches traditional and non-traditional approaches to watercolor painting, with special interest in building technique skills with beginning and intermediate level students. Though clearly having a passion for watercolor, she works in various medium including oils, acrylic, mixed media and collage.
